Suburban Aquatics(SA) swim team offers swim practice and training groups for youth of all ages and ability levels. It is our goal to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities. Please read each group description carefully for information about the group, swim meets, equipment needed, etc. Please note that tryouts are required for new members prior to registration (please see Tryouts for information on how to schedule one)

Mini 1 (M1)

Ages: 10 & Under

Level: Developmental/Beginner

2-3 practices per week. September – May commitment

Program fee: $1500 - meet fees, equipment, registration fees not included

Description: This group is designed to be an introduction to swimming as a competitive sport for children ages 9 and under. Swimmers will be instructed in all four competitive swim strokes with legal technique as well as dives and flip turns. Emphasis will be placed on stroke instruction, formation of good practice habits, and proper lane etiquette. Swim meets will be at the coach’s discretion and are encouraged but not required.

Group Requirements: Must be able to complete 25 yards freestyle and backstroke with proper stroke technique and straight leg kick (no bicycle kicking for example). Swimmers should be able to recover arms over the water and breathing to the side for freestyle, arm recovery over water, and proper body position for backstroke. Previous swim team experience is not required.

Required Equipment: Competitive swimming suit, swim cap (for swimmers with long hair), goggles, rubber swim fins, kick board, mesh bag.

Mini 2 (M2)

Ages: 10 & Under

Level: Intermediate

3-4 practices per week. September – May commitment

Program fee: $1750 - meet fees, equipment, registration fee not included

This group is designed for swimmers looking to take the next step in commitment and competition. Focus will be on continued stroke instruction and refinement as well as flip turns and racing starts. Emphasis will be placed on introducing concepts such as interval training, aerobic conditioning, and racing strategies. Participation in swim meets is required. 

Group Requirements: Must be able to complete 50 yards of all four competitive strokes with reasonable competency and speed. Must be able to complete a racing start from the block. Previous swim team experience is preferred. Must be able to complete repeat 25 yard and 50 yard swims. 

Required Equipment: Competitive swimming suit, swim cap (for swimmers with long hair), goggles, rubber swim fins, kick board, pull buoy, mesh bag.

Practice times (pick 3 or 4 days):

  • Monday/Wednesday/Friday 6:00 - 7:00 PM

  • Tuesday/Thursday 5:30 - 7:00 PM

  • Saturday (when available): 8:00 - 9:30 AM 

 

Developmental Age Group (DAG)

Ages: 9 - 13

Level: Developmental/Beginner

Description: This group is designed to be an introduction to swimming as a competitive sport for children ages 9 and up. Age Group 1 (AG1)

Ages: 9 - 14

Level: Intermediate

3 practices per week. Year-Round September to May commitment

This group is designed to prepare athletes to join Age Group 2. Swimmers in this group should already be familiar with the fundamentals of all four strokes, flipturns, and dives and will be looking to improve their interval training and aerobic conditioning. Swim meets are not required but encouraged. The goal of this group will be to improve aerobic conditioning and technique in order to move to Age Group 2.

Group Requirements: Swimmers should be able to complete 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke with reasonable competency and speed. Previous swim team experience is preferred but not required. Swimmers in this group should be legal in or at least very familiar with breaststroke and butterfly but generally not yet have the aerobic conditioning to complete repeat sets of 50 yard and 100 yard swims on set intervals.

Required Equipment: Competitive swimming suit, swim cap (for swimmers with long hair), goggles, rubber swim fins, kick board, mesh bag, water bottle.

Age Group 2 (AG2)

Ages: 9 - 14

Level: Intermediate

3 practices per week. Year Round September to May commitment

Program fee: $2000 - meet fees, equipment, registration fees not included

This group is designed for swimmers looking to take the next step in commitment and competition. The program will include instruction on stroke technique and refinement, diving, flip turns, aerobic conditioning, and goal setting. Emphasis is also placed on the formation of good practice habits, cardio development and meet preparation. Swimmers are strongly encouraged to participate in every meet possible. 

Group Requirements: Swimmers must be able to complete 50 yards of each stroke with proper technique and reasonable competency and speed, be able to complete a racing start from the pool deck, and be able to complete a freestyle and backstroke flip turn. Must be able to complete repeat 50 and 100 yard swims. Swimmers are required to maintain at least a 2 times per week practice attendance. Previous swim team experience is preferred. Swim meets are required. 

Required Equipment: Competitive swimming suit, swim cap (for swimmers with long hair), goggles, rubber swim fins, kick board, mesh bag, water bottle.

National Development Group (NDG)

Ages: 9-14

Level: Advanced

Coach’s Approval Required

5 practices per week. September - July commitment

Cost: $2750 - meet fees, equipment, registration fees not included

This group is for swimmers ages 9 to 14 years old who plan to compete on a regular basis and can maintain a regular practice attendance. These swimmers are starting to make swimming a priority in their lives with goals to achieve motivational time standards and to qualify for PVS championship meets. Athletes are preparing to swim longer distance events, including 200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, etc. Swimmers are expected to compete in all swim meets selected by the coach and swim all days of the competition, unless excused by the coach. Emphasis will be placed on stroke technique and refinement as well as interval training, aerobic conditioning, race strategy and goal setting. This group will practice outdoors during June & July on a modified schedule. Swimmers will be evaluated periodically throughout the season to assure they are maintaining the group standards.

Group Requirements: Meet attendance is required. Must maintain a minimum of 4x per week practice attendance throughout the year. Appropriate attire (t-shirt, shorts, tennis shoes) is required for Dryland activities. Previous swim team experience required.

Required Equipment: Competitive swimming suit, swim cap (for swimmers with long hair), goggles, rubber swim fins, kick board, pull buoy, hand paddles, snorkel, parachute, mesh swim bag, water bottle. Shorts, shirt, and sneakers for Dryland.

Practice times:

  • Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

  • Friday morning 5:00 - 6:30 AM

  • Saturday (when  available) 7:00 – 9:00 AM


 

National Prep (NP)

Ages: 14-18

Level: Intermediate

4 practices per week offered. Year Round September – May commitment 

Program fee:

  • Year Round- $2250 - meet fees, equipment, registration fees not included

This group is designed for swimmers looking to take the next step in commitment and competition but are not yet ready to join the Senior Training Group. The program will include instruction on stroke technique and refinement, diving, flip turns, aerobic conditioning, and goal setting. Emphasis is also placed on the formation of good practice habits, cardio and aerobic development and meet preparation. Swim meets are not required but are strongly encouraged.

Group Requirements: Swimmers must be able to complete 50 yards of each stroke with proper technique and reasonable competency and speed, be able to complete a racing start from the pool deck, and be able to complete a freestyle and backstroke flip turn. Must be able to complete 50, 100, 200+ yard repeat swims. Swimmers are required to maintain at least a 2 times per week practice attendance. Previous swim team experience is preferred. Swimmers in this group generally should be no faster than:

  • 50 Free: 35.00

  • 100 Free: 1:20

  • 200 Free: 2:30

**Please note these time standards are just examples and should not be considered hard cut-offs.**

Group requirements: Meet attendance and participation in travel meets are strongly encouraged. Must maintain a regular practice attendance. Dryland attendance (both on deck and in the gym) is encouraged;  proper attire required.

Required Equipment:  Rubber swim fins, kick board, pull buoy, hand paddles, snorkel, parachute, mesh swim bag, water bottle. Shorts, shirt, and sneakers for Dryland.

Practice times (pick 3 or 4 days):

National Training Group (NTG)

Ages: 14-18 (High School)

Level: Advanced

Coach’s Approval Required

6 practices per week offered, recommended attendance is at least 3x week

September - July commitment

Cost: $2750 – meet fees, equipment, registration fees not included

This group is for high school swimmers ages 14-18 who have made swimming a priority in their lives. Athletes are focusing on meet participation and qualifying for Local and Regional Championship meets as well as achieving USA swimming motivational time standards. Emphasis will be placed on stroke technique and refinement as well as interval training, aerobic conditioning, race strategy and goal setting. Swimmers are expected to maintain a consistent practice attendance, meet participation and dryland regimen. This group will practice in the summer at an outdoor location on a modified schedule. Swimmers will be evaluated periodically throughout the season to assure they are maintaining the group standards.

Group requirements: Meet attendance and participation in travel meets are strongly encouraged. Must maintain a regular practice attendance. Dryland attendance (both on deck and in the gym) is encouraged;  proper attire required.

Required Equipment:  Rubber swim fins, kick board, pull buoy, hand paddles, snorkel, parachute, mesh swim bag, water bottle. Shorts, shirt, and sneakers for Dryland.

Seasonal Programs

National Prep (NP) *Seasonal*

Ages: 14-18 (High School)

Level: Intermediate

3 practices per week offered Seasonal Fall series

Cost: $550 per program – meet fees, equipment, registration fees not included

This group is for high school swimmers ages 14-18 who wish to improve their swimming conditioning for High School. Swimmers in this group will generally not have swimming be their main sport but instead are just looking to improve on their stroke technique and speed/stamina. Swim meet participation is optional. 

Group requirements: Swimmers must be able to complete 50 yards of each stroke with proper technique and reasonable competency and speed, be able to complete a racing start from the pool deck, and be able to complete a freestyle and backstroke flip turn. Must be able to complete repeat 50 yard swims. Swimmers are required to maintain at least a 2 times per week practice attendance. Previous swim team experience is preferred but not required.

Required Equipment:  Competitive swimming suit, swim cap (for swimmers with long hair), goggles, rubber swim fins, kick board, mesh bag, water bottle.

Practice times (September 17, 2024 – November 10, 2024)

  • Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 4:30-5:30 PM


Developmental Mini (DM)

Ages: 9 & Under

2 or 3 practices (1 hour) per week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays. (See schedule below for exact dates)

Cost: Series 1&3 = $350, Series 2 = $250

Registration Fee: $150 one-time annual registration, includes kick board, and rubber swim fins.

Description: This group is designed to be a bridge from swim lessons to a competitive swim team program that swims 3+ times per week. This group is designed for children ages 8 & Under who want to be on the swim team but do not yet have the skills and stamina to swim 1 length freestyle and 1 length backstroke with proper technique. Swimmers will be taught the basics of proper freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly technique, work on kicking and increasing stamina, as well as the beginnings of the diving progression. Emphasis will be placed on stroke instruction, formation of good practice habits, and proper lane etiquette.

Group Requirements: Swimmers should be comfortable in 6+ feet of water. Swimmers should have mastered front float, back float, air exchange (blow bubbles from nose or mouth in water), be able to fully submerge head, push off and swim 25 yards independently on front and back. 

Required Equipment: Competitive swimming suit, swim cap (for swimmers with long hair), goggles, rubber swim fins, kick board, mesh bag.

 

Stroke Clinic (SC)

Ages: 9-12

1 practice (1 hour) per week offered on Fridays

Cost: $250 per Series

Registration fee: $150 one-time annual registration, includes kick board, and rubber swim fins.

Description: This group is designed for children ages 9 and up who wish to maintain their swimming conditioning for summer team or other sport competition. Swimmers will be instructed in all four competitive swim strokes with legal technique as well as dives. Emphasis will be placed on stroke instruction, formation of good practice habits, and proper lane etiquette.

Group Requirements: Must be able to complete 25 yards freestyle and backstroke with proper body position and breathing to the side for freestyle, arm recovery over the water etc. Previous swim team experience is not required.

Required Equipment: Competitive swimming suit, swim cap (for swimmers with long hair), goggles, rubber swim fins, kick board.

 

Please see the complete Suburban Aquatics Financial policy for more information but in general:

  • Seasonal Program payment is required in full

  • Invoices will be sent out on prior to first day of the series and Credit Cards are charged automatically on the 10th of the month.

    • Swimmers will not be allowed to practice if invoice is not paid by the second practice.

    • The Parent/Gaurdian is responsible to pay for any equipment not listed in the "Required Equipment" for the athlete's respective group (i.e. Swim Suits, Backpacks, T-shirts, Parkas, etc.)

  • Payment method

    • Credit Card (Charged Automatically on the 10th of the month), 2.95% Credit Card Processing Fee per charge.

  • There is no proration of fees for partial attendance and there is no proration/partial refund for unscheduled closures of the facility.

  • Registration fees are completely non-refundable. Program Fees can be refunded before September 28, 2024.

  • All registrations are non-refundable once submitted and parents are responsible for the full cost of the program, even if swimmer has partial attendance or withdraws from the program.
